Member Benefits

HREC is involved in the regulatory processes of the state, county and city agencies which impact the real estate industry in the Houston area. Members typically serve on every major City task force and committee created to address a wide range of issues, including building codes, transportation, drainage and flooding, parking, landscaping, trees, water supply, planning, environmental issues and land use controls. The Council continuously monitors and acts on matters that affect the property rights of real estate owners and developers, including City, County and State government related issues. HREC members meet with City, County and State officials, both elected and appointed, to advance the concerns of the membership. Public officials attend and speak regularly at the HREC monthly meetings.
HREC has the opportunity to resolve and influence real estate issues by educating public officials and others to better understand the real-life consequences of a potential issue.

HREC is a participating member of the Real Estate Councils of Texas, which enables the Council to lobby the issues affecting our real estate industry at the State level.

HREC meets on a monthly basis where current issues are discussed. There are also periodic meetings with senior level public officials. These networking opportunities provide an opportunity to meet with peers and understand the current regulatory environment and shape the direction of development policies and processes. Membership in HREC provides access to the knowledge base of its many long term members from the commercial real estate development community, and the collective experience with city, county and state officials and policies.
